THE MIAMI YOUTH PROJECT, SEED TO HARVEST™
FOR YOUTH AGES 13-18
“Balanced leadership requires strength in all four power force areas: Spiritual, Emotional, Mental, and Physical.”
The Miami Youth Development Project (MYP) is based on the principles of Seed To Harvest™ (STH™), created by Amistad Harvest Corporation in Upper Marlboro, Maryland.
MYP is an asset-based, active learning approach for young men and women ages 13 - 18. The program uses interactive and participant driven concepts employing real life challenges as a live classroom.
Youth will also build and maintain a community garden in Liberty City. In addition to being therapeutic, gardening will serve as an object lesson to spark interest in the principles of STH™ and career development. The garden will expose the youth to career opportunities in the fields of horticulture and geo sciences, while also beautifying the city.
There are four semesters of STH™ training in a calendar year. Each semester is eight weeks long and contains four modules: Seed To Harvest™ Leadership Training, Academic Tutoring, Breaking Ground, and Gardening. The summer semester may include summer employment opportunities for youth who successfully complete at least two semesters of The Miami Youth Project.
Church of the Open Door young adults were recognized for completion of Level 1, Miami Youth Project, Seed To Harvest (TM).
